Do Something

Filed: National Issues, Photography, Reflections

How often do you sit back and look at what surrounds you? How often do you realize that, even though there are many things happening that are unfortunate and just plain ugly, beauty still reigns? Personally, I notice something everyday, no matter how small that something is. Whether it be a flower, the sky, the ocean, or even a lizard - I notice it. I feel as though I see things in a totally different light - when I drive past the ocean or lake, it’s like my vision has been renewed. I try to capture what I see - sometimes I do a good job of that (as shown above), but how can I get others to see what I see and how I see it?

I’ve shown my photography to a few of my friends, some of who have commented that the particular subject was beautiful. But, others asked me if I was “bored” because I took photographs of nature. Why do people ask you if you’re bored because you do something you love? Take web-design, for example. How many of you have had people ask if you designed websites because you’re bored? Better yet, how many of you have had someone ask if you were bored because you were doing something they didn’t enjoy doing? Reading? I’ve had many tell me that I’m a nerd and that I’m bored because I read

Can we really expect something from this generation? You have a handful of teenagers who spend their time doing something productive - something that could benefit them and others. Then, you have all of the others who waste their time. I’m not perfect when it comes to time, but I’m trying hard to broaden my horizons and do something. Anything. I want to develop my creativity. I want to learn more. I want to become something. I want to be known for what I’ve done, even if it’s not on a worldly scale.

Point being: make use of the talents you have. Make use of the opportunities given to you. Do something. Don’t sit back and let time fly past you.  Time is precious and it waits for no one. Sometimes it just takes something miniscule to push you to where you need to be. Remember: God helps those who help themselves. So, help yourself.
